Gummi Grün is one of the few owner-run shops in Cologne’s city center that has survived every trend of being modern or hip.
Even if you don’t need a new bathing cap, a rubber hose or a plastic funnel, it could be a curious experience to drop by and admire the peculiar accumulation of rubber items in Richmodstr. 3-7.
When you enter the store you’ll feel like going back in time. I was surprised when I learned that the company moved to the current location only in 1992, because the time jump feels much bigger. In fact, Gummi Grün looks back on a tradition of more than 125 years. Of course, the items and interior aren’t that vintage, but definitely make you feel going back to the past.
I recently stepped into Gummi Grün in order to buy a new hot water bottle and I enjoyed every little moment of being attended by the employees. I had the choice of several specimens and when I finally made my choice I got a hand-written receipt that I had to show at the cash office. I paid and then my product was handed over to me.
Next time I need rubber boots or a watering can, I will definitely go back to Gummi Grün to savor this very attentive and old-fashioned customer service again!
