Weyertal is maybe the most “alternative” street in Sülz, Cologne, characterized by a high density of cafés, bars and (vintage) book sellers as well as two schools and a large playground.
At any time of the day Kafé Local could be a rewarding destination. They serve breakfast in the mornings; soups, snacks and cakes all day long and they offer a small, but carefully selected choice of wines. In summertime, they expand their café space to the sidewalk. I enjoy sitting outside in this familiar, but very urban environment, watching the passers-by.
What my kids like most about Kafé Local is their cooperation with the pizza take-away “Pizza Pazza” next door. They offer an excellent pizza and you can order it in the café. It will then be served on plates with napkins and silverware!
What I like most is their cooperation with the adjacent bookstore “Der andere Buchladen”. Inside the café, there is a large bookcase and you can browse through the assembled books of any genre, take them to your table and let time go by. Some new releases are always on display.
Whenever I have to buy a book, “Der andere Buchladen” is the bookseller of my choice in the neighborhood. I like the bright and spacious rooms and I very much appreciate their selection of fiction. People who are interested in (left-wing political) non-fiction will find a broad range of books, too. Some titles are also available in English.
