A not-so-famous museum, even though it is in the pretty busy and central area of Christianshavn. It is housed in the old merchant’s house, which was the official head office for Heering’s businesses — the famous cherry brandy maker!
Later in 1977 it was bought by the Danish Commercial Bank and later on became part of Nordea Foundation, always within the banking field.
That is why it is quite mixed! Besides the special exhibitions, you can admire the main exhibition, especially if you are interested in banking and finance, which includes one of the biggest piggy bank collections! Did you know that 'piggy' is not from the word 'pig' but from the clay used to make piggy banks? Making them pigs was just a twist and wordplay!
Other than that, though, the museum shows a collection of items from the 19th-century Danish banking system and additionally owns a fully functional bank branch — bonus: you can touch and play with almost all exhibits!
