When visiting Copenhagen, I could say there is only one must-do: get on a bike, bike through Nørrebro (preferably after a night out), inhale the smell of grilled meat and have shawarma. Just the smell of barbecue and homemade pitas will make you hungry. The shawarma bars are lined up like a pearl necklace and there are more than 100 of them.
Even though there is some serious competition, I still think Durum bar is the best. It looks just like the rest, but it is absolutely not. They have the best meat, the best homemade pitas, the best sauce and the best veggies. Don’t forget to ask for extra tabouleh! For 70 DKK, you will get a durum döner kebab which is hard to forget. Have your kebab on the street, brighten the atmosphere and pretend you are going along a busy street in the Middle East. If you prefer to sit down in a more “restaurant place”, Kösem, literally across the street, has the second-best shawarma in town.
