We really are spoiled for choice when it comes to shopping in Dublin. We have a couple of good high street and high-end shopping districts dotted across the city and some world-class shopping centres (malls) slightly outside of the city. While shopping in Dublin really is fantastic, I found myself sick of the same old clothes in the same shops — everything like a carbon copy of something seen on a mannequin and none with any character or personality.

I stumbled across Dublin Vintage Factory while I was wandering through the city and was pleasantly surprised to learn about this fairly new concept on the Dublin fashion scene. The clothing on sale in Dublin Vintage Factory is recycled, pre-loved clothing and is sold by weight instead of by individual tag prices. They have a great selection of shirts, dresses, jackets, shoes, bags and accessories for both men and women in a range of shapes and sizes.

Some of the clothing has been reworked to make new items and many are one of a kind. I love this novel idea, taking us further from the wasteful world of fast fashion and making us appreciate someone else’s junk as our treasure. You can really bag a bargain too, with a lot of items on sale for less than €5, like light silk shirts or patterned blouses which don’t weigh a lot at all. I’ve found a few really unique pieces which friends are always complimenting, as no-one else is wearing anything like them.
