There are in fact two Porterhouse bars in Dublin, and the one in Temple Bar area is somehow considered better. Yes it is indeed good, but the other side of that, is that it’s also a lot more crowded and far more touristy. I prefer the second Porterhouse at the end of Grafton street.
The owners of the bars have their own brewery as well, so their motto is “Brewed by men, not machines”. I don’t drink beer but always hear only good things about the Porterhouse own brew, and they actually have loyalty cards, just like for coffee! You can stamp them when buying those Porterhouse beers, and get the 10th one free.
They do, of course, have a great selection of other craft beers, from Ireland and all over the world (their beer card is in fact so impressive it makes you wonder whether they actually have all of those in stock, but they do). Another advantage over the Temple Bar one, is that in the less popular bar they also have lots of special offers, such as 2 for 1 on cocktails on some days or double portion of chicken wings every Wednesday. Strange to say it about a pub and not a fancy cocktail bar, but their frozen strawberry daiquiri is the best I’ve had!
The food is good, and they show sports – it’s a great place without the feel of an “old man’s pub”. I wish Dublin had more pubs like this.
