I absolutely love the pub culture in Dublin, and I think the hundreds of drinking spots scattered across town is what gives Dublin its unique, cosy and homely vibe. However, coming from a much bigger city, I sometimes miss the trendy “hipster” places too. The Ruin Bar was a recent discovery of mine that instantly became one of my favourite bars in town.
From the team that brought us The Camden Exchange (also a definite favourite!), Ruin Bar opened in late 2017 and is already a very popular place, especially on weekends and holidays – the photo was taken on a Monday night so don’t be deceived! I like how spacious it feels, even when crowded, and love the steampunk interiors inspired by the ruin bars in Budapest; they really set this bar apart from other places in Dublin.
Any bar in central Dublin can also double as a lunch place for nearby office workers, and so Ruin bar has a lunch and dinner menu available. I haven’t tried the food there yet, but absolutely adore the food at Camden Exchange, so coming from the same team, I’m sure I wouldn’t be disappointed. The drinks and cocktails menu is also very extensive, and they even have my beloved ginger beer!
I love coming here both in the early hours, when it’s quiet and easier to chat, and at busier times to enjoy a great night out.
