Many of my friends prefer the south side of Dublin, rather than the North – for a continental European it might sound weird, but indeed, we, the citizens of Dublin, divide the city into two parts – above and below the river Liffey. The Northern side can be quite rough, and therefore it’s often suggested to meet in the south, where one of the popular areas for this purpose is around George’s Street. My personal experience in bars and pubs there was that it’s quite packed and often very loud, and I do not like the latter. One weekday after work we went on an investigation for a cosy but not crazy place to have a drink without shouting at each other. Many locations around the area failed the test. And then I remembered the Bar with No Name!
You can access this secret bar from Kelly’s Hotel or from the street. When you get in – it is indeed a house transformed into a bar, very much Berlin style, with a lot of air, two bars, cosy chairs and not too much noise. Their specialty are cocktails, but I prefer a bottle of Desperados and to chill out putting my legs on a couch inside. Good music is there too. Since then I keep coming back there. So if you are looking for a nice one on a weekday evening and want to get that Berlin “ish” feeling – The Bar with No Name is a place to go to!
