For my first two years in Dublin, I lived south of town and this coffee shop on the ground floor of my apartment building is really what I consider a hidden treasure. It has become my go-to place for coffee before heading into town and on a day off.
While out of the way from most tourist routes (I have to admit, it’s quite far off the beaten track), I would strongly encourage you not to miss it if you’re in the area. I am absolutely convinced they make the best coffee, not just in the south but in all of Dublin – and I’m quite a coffee geek so I know all the good places! I have been to other cafes using the same coffee roaster, and even then it’s not quite the same, which I guess proves that being a barista is a craft and not just a job. Oh and their cups are bigger than most!
The interior is quite standard for a cafe, not romantically cozy, but still comfortable for both work and a chat. The place is full at breakfast and lunch, and it has quite a vibe. I’d say most of the visitors live or work around the area, so you end up seeing the same people and chit-chatting with the baristas. I recently moved into central Dublin, and the Coffee Shot is definitely the one thing I miss most, so I make sure I drop by whenever I’m in Sandyford.
