Cowan and Sons – Glorious brunches

There is no reason to be sad when winter is approaching for Scotland is a place made for cold weather and Edinburgh is no different! Edinburgh is full of warm, cosy cafes and pubs that makes the city one of the best to visit in the colder months!

I walked past this cafe many times but finally ducked in one lazy Saturday afternoon. It was a bit chilly and we came in to the smell of coffee and cakes, so not a bad start! We ordered a bowl of chunky hummus with crusty bread and a cheese toasty with a shot of chutney. This was really the dream lunch for a chilly autumn day.

The bread was great and I would come back for this alone, but the whole lunch had a wholesome and rustic feel, and I also appreciated the large glass bottles of tap water for each table, so no need to keep asking for more! I must mention, I missed it by an hour, but the cafe also does breakfast until 15:00! The breakfast menu looked amazing and I was kicking myself for just missing it, but it’s definitely going to be one of my regular spots from now on.

To top things off, we ordered a walnut brownie on the way out and it was one of the softest, most indulgent brownies I’ve had, so if you can only pop in, pop in – it’s a delicious option for an afternoon!
