The Cumberland is every inch the traditional pub, located right in the middle of the Georgian New Town. The great range of cask beers and whiskies, and one of the only beer gardens in the area, make for a winning combination. The beer garden is a bit of a sun-trap, so it can be popular, but it’s just as good when wrapped up for the Scottish weather.
If you’re looking for a pub with a jukebox and football on big screens, then the Cumberland is not for you. However if you’re looking for a traditional pub selling a good range of cask beers and some quality pub grub then this is the place – try the Sunday lunchtime roasts. The monthly £ 3 guest beers are worth looking out for.
A personal favourite is Latitude Pilsner from the Scottish – Atlas Brewery, or in the dark days of the Scottish winter move indoors for a few malt whiskies from the good range they stock.
