Something unique to the UK, and extremely popular with locals in all British cities and towns, is the idea of Charity Shopping, and Edinburgh definitely does not disappoint on this front. While there are numerous charity shops found on practically every street of the city, some areas are better than others in terms of stock. For example: if I’m looking for something quirky, I always head to the Leith Walk charity shops, or if I’m looking for second-hand designer brands, I dip into the Stockbridge area. But the residential, student-filled area of Morningside contains, arguably, the city’s best and charity shops.
Its main street, Morningside Road, is crowded with charity shops of all shapes and sizes, selling everything from clothes and board games to furniture and artwork. If you want to get a real feel for a local Edinburgh shopping experience, then Morningside is definitely the place to go.
Whenever I get a bit peckish on one of my sprees here, I always pop into one of the many tiny Italian restaurants that punctuate the area. A perfect day out for anyone who enjoys shopping on a budget!
