Ham and cheese doesn’t have the same ring to it as Serrano & Manchega but the name is not a manufactured Spanish construct, this is the real deal: authentic Spanish food in an authentic Spanish eatery in the most unexpected of places.
Leith Walk is an up-and-coming street full of ethnic surprises – a superb Chinese supermarket, African, Polish, Italian, Indian food joints, clothes shops and much more besides. It links the city of Edinburgh with the port of Leith and no trip to Edinburgh should miss its delights.
Right at the heart of it sits Serrano & Manchega – a tapas bar that’s open all day and is constantly busy.
Good tapas isn’t cheap, but Serrano & Manchega keeps the prices manageable while serving amazing titbits such as Pulpo a la Plancha (grilled octopus). All the favourites are there; patatas bravas, tortilla, pimientos de padron, croquetos de bacalao and the fabulous chorizo al vino.
The house wine is very drinkable and excellent value.
The whole place is a delight in my favourite part of Edinburgh (the Williamsburg of our fabulous city).
