Mmmm.
Mmmmm.
Mmmmmm.
Mmmmmmm.
The best birthday cake I ever tasted in my life came from this unlikeliest of locations.
In a none-too-alluring side street off Leith Walk (Albert Street), it has a facade that doesn’t even remotely begin to describe the treats that lie within.
It’s a family bakery and clearly has seen no need for new fangled things like a website (although it does have a Facebook page that largely showcases its large cakes).
It’s a traditional bakery so you can buy bread and morning rolls, but it’s the cakes that are what this place is really about. Macarons, Sicilian Cannoli, strawberry and mixed fruit tarts oozing with cream, profiteroles, you name it, they’ll have it but only if it can be described as delicious.
It’s no wonder it has been named Scottish bakery of the year. I wouldn’t be surprised if it one day won WORLD bakery of the year.
As you might expect queues can be long on a Saturday but during the week it’s not off-putting.
A must visit spot in Edinburgh.
