One of Leith’s most well-loved locals, the Brass Monkey is far from your traditional British pub. Characterised by its Hollywood Movie theme, you’re greeted by a giant projector along the back wall which plays classic films from opening to closing. Littered with super-comfy sofas and armchairs, a quick pint in the Brass Monkey (known simply as ‘Brass’ to its die-hard fans) usually turns into an entire evening lounging in the pub’s warm, fun atmosphere.
Although a big fan of the traditional Scottish Tennent’s beer, I often switch up my order to one of their delicious cocktails – this winter, the menu included a boozy Orange Hot Chocolate made with Cointreau, which is perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth as big as mine. If you find yourself feeling a little peckish, The Brass Monkey offers a modest but extremely tasty food menu, with their loaded dirty fries a personal favourite of mine. Their burgers are also to-die-for – at lunch, why not treat yourself to their soup and bagel deal, which costs only £5?
A Monday night pub quiz is also a popular favourite with locals, and is religiously hosted by the Edinburgh-famous Dr Paul. As if this isn’t enough entertainment for you, there are a range of card and board games kept behind the bar for anyone to use.
