When in Florence don’t miss the chance to visit Sicily! Or at least get a taste of the variety of sweets, ice cream and other goodies the south Italian island has to offer. Arà, è Sicilia is just a small “hole in the wall” and very easy to miss if you don’t know it’s there.
As for the sweets I’m an ice cream lover and can’t get enough of the pistachio or almond flavours. The ricotta ice cream is very different from other flavours but tasty and well worth trying! But I would say that even better at Arà are the “Arancini”, the fried rice balls with different filling. One would be sufficient for lunch or as a very rich snack. They have many flavours from classic meat sauce with peas or ham and cheese to their own experiments with different ingredients. My absolute favourite is the “Nero di seppia” that is actually filled with squid and black squid ink. So delicious!
Besides ice cream and arancini there is a counter filled with amazing pastries, cookies and much more. Enjoy your visit!
