It was over a year ago that I first had lunch in this charismatic little fish restaurant, located just a little walk along the river outside Florence’s old town. Now I go almost every week to satisfy my fish cravings. At lunch Fiaschetteria Di Pesce is slightly less busy while in the evening, especially on the weekend, the wait can be a bit longer. There’s no reservation and the mood is quite busy so don’t go if you expect a romantic atmosphere and patient waiters. Though we have gone with just two or even larger groups of people, with a glass of wine while waiting it has never been a problem. Just go along with the active surroundings, relax and enjoy.
The cold appetisers that you can choose from the glass counter are always a good start, the pasta dishes are heaven. My favourite is the spaghetti with “cotti and “crudi gamberi rossi”, that is, mixed cooked and raw red shrimp! And you can always try to ask for a classic “spaghetti alle vongole” (clams) if nothing on the menu appeals to you. The second courses are always fresh and well prepared and the “frittura” with mixed fried fish is delicious. There’s also an option to have “crudités” of raw fish mixed or chosen from the tempting counter.
There’s a nice wine selection but the house wine is very nice as well. If you get tired of the traditional Tuscany kitchen, go and explore my Florence fish favourite!
