I’Brindellone is the place I go to for an excellent bistecca alla fiorentina. It is a small restaurant located in a very nice neighborhood just beside the Carmine church. The walls are covered with pictures and gadgets of the local football team “Acf Fiorentina” and with some mementos of the very traditional “Calcio Storico Fiorentino”, historical football (more like rugby actually) played every year in S. Croce square. Staring at the waiter, you could easily imagine him breaking some noses during these matches!!
I always skip the pasta dishes and concentrate on the wonderful antipasti (ham, salame and crostini) and the superb bistecca. And please, do not ask for it well done…you may get the big waiter angry!!! The house wine is great and cheap and the fried side dishes are very yummy.
It is always packed, so reservations is very recommended. At lunchtime they have a special menu for only € 10 but obviously there is no bistecca.
A curio: the name comes from the big cart used for the infamous Easter parade “Scoppio del Carro”, that will “explode” in front of the Duomo and, if the ritual proceeds smoothly, will ensure good luck for the city.
