Around the city you can see some small food trucks selling a strange sandwich with queues of local people for lunch. These are the lampredotto sellers, one of the most typical food experiences you can have in Florence. And when I mean typical I mean that you can find it only in Florence, you can’t even find it in other cities in Tuscany. I personally love them and one of my favourites is the one located in the San Frediano neighborhood.
Well, I prefer to skip the explanation of what lampedotto is, and if you are not vegetarian I really suggest you try it. Once you order you have to tell them what you’d like as garnish on your sandwich and here’s where we can tell if you are local or not…you need to ask for “salsa verde”, salt and pepper and please ask to soak the bread in the brot (bagnato). The sandwich must be combined with a glass of red wine (in plastic glass) or water…please do not ask for any other strange beverages!
It is open only on weekdays during lunchtime but if you arrive late you may find the lampredotto all gone!
