Piazza Santo Spirito is a square in central Florence, surrounded by restaurants and bars. It’s in a part of Florence that used to be poor but now is more residential and home to artists and creativity. Piazza Santo Spirito is a meeting place for people in Florence every day, from morning to, well, sometimes the next morning again. From an early coffee inside cozy Volume, breakfast outside at the Pop Café terrace on a sunny day, lunch at Osteria Santo Spirito, a sandwich from Gusta Panino on the stairs in front of the church, aperitivo at Cabiria to dinner at Tamerò or Borgo Antico. On the weekends there are food, artisan or antique markets or occasionally simply a relaxing calmness.
But above all Piazza Santo Spirito is known for its nightlife. The biggest part of the year the square fills up on weekend nights and bubbles with laughter and energy. Locals and visitors from all over the world blend in a big international mix. Glam and fashion co-exist with grungy and bohemian styles. Everyone is ready for the night’s surprises.
Many of my evenings in the square seem to suck me into a black hole full of fun encounters with friends and strangers and the next time I look at the time it’s 05:00 and the sun is rising again! Then it’s time to move on to something new, but that’s another story..
