Though I have been living around the corner from Casablanca for the last 3 years, I only came by it rather recently. I have passed by its entrance countless times on my way to other popular spots such as the Bockenheimer Weinkontor and still I missed it every single one of them. Casablanca is a hidden gem, facing an inner courtyard, so trust the map and keep an eye out for the signs.
Casablanca is a queer place, the character of which changes from one occasion to the next. It is a beer garden from 17:00 where you can sit with some friends sipping chilled beer and nibbling on middle-eastern influenced snacks. It is a bar where you can gather your girlfriends for some cocktails. It is a restaurant where you can taste flavours from different nationalities and go home with a full belly and a warm heart.
On Wednesdays, Casablanca offers a buffet dinner; every week a different national cuisine is offered. Polish, Egyptian, German, Persian, French, Czech, Spanish, you name it! For €15, you get a drink and endless rounds of the various dishes on offer.
Casablanca also has a beautiful terrace, perfect for Summer or dry Autumn evenings, and its closed space is both relaxed and lively. I enjoy sitting outside chatting with a friend and simply enjoying the quiet surroundings – would you know that right outside is all that traffic?
Check their Facebook page to be up-to-date on their buffet schedule and join the crowd for a treat!
