Frankfurt’s newest museum has opened in the Westend, nestled in between banks and financial institutions. The Goldkammer (Gold Chamber) takes you on an animated elevator ride down deep into a goldmine (miners in the deepest mines actually commute up to 1.5 hours every day before they reach their working places. This ride takes only a minute.) Following a vein of gold on the floor visitors can experience the evolution, mining, making and transformation of gold.
The Goldkammer is actually an amazing collection of various modern designed chthonic rooms to explore during your visit. They take you from antique worlds through an Eldorado of gold into the deep ocean and finally in a multimedia animated precious collection chamber. Spherical sound, well designed lighting and exquisite displaying make the tour a complete experience for all senses. You can sense the gold!
Kids and all visitors get to touch, hold and lift a real gold bar and find how incredibly heavy it is. I was really amazed and know better now when I see movies with gold robbers that throw them around with ease.
In general, the Goldkammer is great place for kids, with an app, animations and narration explicitly made for young visitors, guiding them through a gold hunt. Adults will admire the beauty and the fascination of gold. I particularly liked the reductive, modern, fine architecture and design of this new museum.
