The Spoutnik proposes non-commercial films that you would not find in other cinemas. Its main goal is to show movies other than main stream. For this reason it collaborates with several film festivals. It also regularly organises meetings with film directors.
It takes care to show movies with different formats (Super-8, 16mm, 35mm, and video) and length such as short and featured films. The collective of the Spoutnik selects movies about a topic or in accordance with new released movies. Every month it proposes a new selection.
The Spoutnik is part of l’Usine, the most famous alternative cultural centre in Geneva. The projection room is on the first floor of the entrance on the Rue de la Coulouvrenière. The cinema seats in the middle of the room make you feel like you’re in a traditional cinema while the lighting with lampshades and comfy sofas on the both sides make you feel like you’re in a living room.
In short, with a beer bought at the refreshment bar, this is, for me, the perfect atmosphere to watch a movie.
During the summer the main cinema is closed, but it organise nice open air show. Check on the website for more information.
