Geneva’s theatre scene wouldn’t be the same without Galpon theatre! Tucked away in a dead-end street, at the foot of “Le bois de la batie” park, on the boards along the Arve river, Galpon theatre has been an institution for innovative performing arts since the early ’90s.
Galpon is still managed today by its founder, who created it over 20 years ago, precisely in 1996. It is structured as a no-profit association with, as its main goals, the developing and promotion of performing arts, research, and educational purposes, as they collaborate and open their doors to school groups of different ages.
Originally located in Boulevard de St.Georges in an occupied building, former site of the Service Industriel de Geneve, it moved to its current location only in 2008. The building is a very large, modular space of over 650 square meters, including the rehearsal and training spaces.
What makes this theatre so special is its familiar and cosy atmosphere: as soon as you enter it, the welcoming foyer will make you feel at home, in your living room, where you can a share a moment of conviviality over a glass of wine or a handmade quiche, thanks to the small coffee shop that is open to the public before and after the show.
Their programme offer is very wide, from dance to experimental music performances to cabaret.
