When you ask a foreigner what is most typical of Belgium, they will probably say beer and chocolate. The first is Hopduvel’s specialty; they sell over 100 different kinds of beer, some typical Belgian classics such as Westmalle and Orval, but also lesser-known international kinds.
The store itself is nothing special, since it is just a big hall of different kinds of beer, but their product range is truly out of this world. If you are a collector of beers or you just want to try a new one, certainly pay a visit to this store. They also make gift baskets, ideal for those who had to stay at home and could not make it to the store themselves. To complete the set, they sell the correct glass to the beer so you can look like you really know what you are doing.
On top of beers, they also have a selection of liqours, either made in Belgium or in neighbouring countries.
Bonus: it has a really nice location along the Coupure so you can take your recently bought beer and enjoy it on a bench along one of Ghent’s most famous waterways.
