The world of Ghent's restaurant scene is changing. More restaurants decide to work on weekdays only and limit the number of tables and staff. I already wrote about Oak and this restaurant is very similar. Roots only serves 11 tables and everyone is able to watch the kitchen.
You can find the restaurant in one of Ghent's most cosy neighbourhoods: Patershol. Since several decades it has been a quarter filled with restaurants. Roots seems to be hidden in a regular house. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very informal: you can find the cutlery in a drawer of your table, you get the bottle of wine on your table and the service is very casual.Â
The food is pure, local, honest and refined. I prefer these small-scale restaurants with direct contact with the kitchen and all of the staff. I hope more of these kinds of restaurants will open their doors. And if not, I will be happy to be a regular visitor of Roots. What about you?
