First of all, let me explain my theory: after several years of extensive research (i.e. three years of commuting and occasional travelling in and out of town), I have become aware that finding an enjoyable cafe while waiting for a train can be a real pain. I mean, why are all the good places always so far away from train and bus stations? Visitors and fellow Glaswegians, let me share with you my own sanctum sanctorum inside Glasgow Central Station.
Tucked inside the main station building, at the north-east corner, Gordon St Coffee really is a must-try: not only because it is a one-off, owned-by-locals cafe, but also because at GSC they roast their own coffee (also available online). Yes, you heard me. And, although the place is technically defined as a small batch producer, I guarantee that each one of the coffee blends roasted in-house are a BIG deal.
All coffee combinations are available in two sizes, wee (small, as we say here) & big, and can be enjoyed sitting in one of the tables inside the cafe or in the outdoor area, which is right next to the main entrance of the station.
I also recommend trying some of the sweet treats available at the counter: not a day have I walked past it and seen the same flavours on display. Take a peak inside and see for yourself!
