Matilda’s has always been a nostalgic favorite of mine as it was one of the first cafes I went to when I came to Glasgow. Right down Byers road, the West End of Glasgow, it was an ideal stop off for me from my previous work., at British Heart foundation.
When served, you’re given the option to sit in the gorgeous little cafe or take a coffee away with you. They have a wide range of carefully composed, unique and tasty sandwiches, cakes and pastries for a little treat day, or just something to munch on as you walk down Byers road. The prices differ slightly depending on the ingredients, although it is admittedly a little on the pricey side.
It is a cosy little location, with a strangely sweet, vaguely hipster atmosphere. They have clean white walls, with little tables mirroring each other on each side of the room. The caterers are extremely polite and take care and attention when crafting your meals and sandwiches – a process you can watch, as the ingredients are just out of arm’s reach under a glass protective screen, giving the customer a slight glimpse into the process behind making your food. The venue is admittedly on the pricier side, as Byers road tends to be a slightly more expensive area, but is fine for an odd treat every now and again.
