The Bell Jar can be found on the corner of Dixon Avenue and Westmoreland Street just off Govanhill’s Victoria Road and a quick jaunt from Queen’s Park Station. The name of the bar comes from the title of a Sylvia Path book, according to one of the owners in a write up by Dram Scotland.
The Bell Jar was opened in November 2018 and used to be known as Life O’ Reilly until it shut down and was bought by the new owners. The Bell Jar has a saloon-style bar with plenty of authentic beers to choose from as well as other wines and spirits. They also serve food during the day into the early evening and has plenty of positive reviews online about the menu.
I enjoy jumping into this bar if I’m back late from work and I have that feeling of a late pint instead of a home-cooked meal. I also like coming here when I want to maybe play a few board games with friends.
It hosts a pub quiz on Monday nights which start as close to 8 pm as possible according to their Facebook page and is a sister pub to The Sparkle Horse in Partick.
The Bell Jar can be easily accessed by train by getting off at Queen’s Park station and there also plenty of buses that head along Viccy road.
