The Hafenklang is one of my absolute favorite music clubs. Located in the harbor area of Hamburg close to the famous fish market you can almost smell the tradition and the past concerts of many decades.
Nowadays you will find a great mix of famous and underground bands, young newcomers and evergreens. Most of the music can be described as punk rock, I guess, but you can find different genres from Ska to Psychedelic Rock and everything in between. Sometimes there are little festivals with more bands playing or themed DJ nights. Entryis very cheap normally, so you can spend more money inside to drink.
They have two venues and both are small and very intense. I like that the stage seems to be almost on floor level (even if it’s not) so that band and audience are as close together as possible. The acoustics are great as well by the way.
After the concert you will be soaked with sweat and will need a fresh breeze — just make the few steps towards the river Elbe and see the water passing by. If you want to spend an intense, long evening with good people and good music, this is my advice to you.
Even if there is no concert, I like to grab a beer and play on the soccer table and in this way start my night in St. Pauli.
