Berta Emil Richard Schneider (BERS) is still somewhat of an insider tip, although it is truly one of the top-notch restaurants in Hamburg. The chefs are freakishly in love with the produce they use. Everything that comes into the kitchen and onto your plate is sustainable and of the highest possible quality. The centerpieces of every dish are also local. Some dubbed the dishes as “German tapas”.
You can feel and taste that there is a story to every course, nothing is here by accident. This is excitement food. The love for the produce also shows in the selection of the wine list. This might be the best place to drink top-class German wine in Hamburg. If you can’t decide on one bottle, I recommend putting your faith in the hands of the excellent staff. You will not be disappointed (promise).
Oh, and a word on the atmosphere: superb. The seating in the back room is extremely cool. In a good way! Nice chairs, wooden tables, some concrete and cozy lighting. As for the paintings on the wall….well, you’ve got to decide for yourself. But have a glass of Riesling first. Or a good Spanish red.
You should make a reservation if the terrace is not open. An insider tip is to come for the excellent breakfast on weekends and stay the day.
