“At a time when I knew the least about my enemies, the first name on my Death List, O-Ren Ishii, was the easiest to find. But of course when one manages the hard task of becoming queen of the Tokyo underworld, one doesn’t keep it a secret, does one?” (Beatrix about O-Ren in the movie Kill Bill)
Well, I started writing about O-ren Ishii several times. Actually I’m not sure yet if I really should – because I love it, ….no wait… – I adore it! And I don’t want it more crowded than it already is.
During lunchtime, surrounded by loads of offices, agencies and editorial houses you can find this little inconspicuous spot on a small road, popular with people who love Vietnamese food. Most of them only come here for the glass-noodle salad (I can absolutely recommend it). It’s the taste of Asia, of lime, chili, fresh greens…
The staff is always up for a chat! Calmly and patiently they manage all the people in high peak times. If the restaurant is full, ask them if they know how long you’ll need to wait. During summer you can sit outside or in the park nearby.
My personal recommendation: choose one of the daily dishes or the favorite glass-noodle salad. Drink a homemade lemonade with lemon-grass. Afterwards drink an original Vietnamese espresso with robusta coffee beans and a drop of sweetened milk. Super yummy!
Now you know my lovely secret place! Please only tell the good people!
