My Monday evenings are usually reserved for chatting in German with strangers. This is when I join the people at the Café Lingua event organized on Mondays in the center of Helsinki at Pub Peräkammari. At six o’clock the place gets filled with people chatting in different languages.
Café Lingua is an event for anyone wanting to practice actually speaking a language they have learned before. Every table is marked with a language or two and both native speakers and others gather around to chat and have a nice evening together. Many stay to chat until late!
Café Lingua event is open for all, so just get a drink from the bar and take a seat. There are many tables, so I’m not even sure which languages are represented, but usually there’s a chance to brush up your English, German, French, Spanish and Japanese at least – and Finnish, of course! Native speakers are always warmly welcomed to the tables, so Café Lingua is a great event to meet some locals while traveling.
Like I said, I might be at the German table, so come and say hallo!
