I’m an absolute movie buff. There. I’ve said it. I’m so much of a movie buff that I might need to join a “moviegoers anonymous” or something like that. I just love the way the stories take me away to a different world for a moment.

I do realize that there are cinemas in every city and they are quite likely showing pretty much the same movies (not counting of course the local ones). But… that’s actually why I do think it’s a great experience to go to the movies in a new place, because people all around the world do it. It’s also a little bit different everywhere. So it won’t be just a “Helsinki thing”.

The good thing about going to the movies in Finland is that almost all of the international ones are in their original language with subtitles. So you don’t have to be afraid that things have been dubbed. Well, maybe with animation, but with those there’s the original and dubbed option being showed.

This cinema chain, Finnkino, actually has other spots in Helsinki too, but Tennispalatsi is the biggest and thus has the biggest selection. They have the Helsinki Art Museum in the same building too, so you can easily combine two different forms of art. Plus there’s a shopping mall right next door, so more activities really close by. That already sounds like a pretty good day. You might also bump into me at the movies.
