Kaisla has one of the best selections of malt liquors around central Helsinki. It used to be the place to expand our knowledge of beers, but has since been overrun by new interesting craft beer bars. Nonetheless, Kaisla is still very recommended, because of the location and volume. And it was the first place where I found “Malheur Grand Cuvee”, “Sink the Bismarck” and “Pime Öö PX” for example.
Kaisla is relatively big, but can be crowded. Especially on Fridays and Saturdays it can be quite busy, but once you get a spot it’s cozy and relaxed. Usually there’s no music, so this place is best for some board games and talking.
We have played a lot of liar’s dice here lately, the one they play in Pirates of the Caribbean. But bring your own dice, so you don’t have to nick any from Trivial Pursuit or Monopoly. Besides a wide variety of beers there’s whisky, wine and snacks like toasts, sausages and snails with garlic.
