Katri Valan Puisto – Poet’s secret garden

The famous poet Katri Vala’s first book was called A Distant Garden. The park named after her is not distant at all, but maybe a little like a secret garden… It is situated right next to the Sörnäinen Metro station at Kurvi, like we locals like to call the busy spot where Hämeentie street makes a big “Curve”. Because the park is up on a hill and by looking up from Kurvi, you can’t necessarily tell that it’s there, I know for a fact that it can take even locals years to spot.

In summertime the park is full of flowers and the colors are always changing. After the weekend everything can look totally different when new flowers have suddenly popped up from the ground!

Since the park is situated on a hill, it is one of the best places for catching even the late evening sun in summer. In Kurvi you can find many grocery stores, so the park is also an ideal place for a picnic or a lazy stroll with an ice cream melting down your fingers.
