Merimakasiini offers the most special and delicious food, as the name tells you, their specialty is seafood but their meat and poultry dishes are also great. They adapt their menu to the seasons, so in wintertime you might also get a great Elk steak or Reindeer roast here. During summer they offer fresh fish as their catch of the day. The prices are somewhat higher than your simple lunch restaurant, but I can assure you, this is really something! Located right next to the water, it is wonderful to sit by the window and observe the west harbor of Helsinki. In summer it’s especially nice to see the sunset glowing over the harbour.
This restaurant is probably one of the best ones I know, and my go-to place whenever there’s an occasion that needs to be celebrated with a particularly nice meal.
Some items on their menu – especially in their changing dessert section – might make you wonder: “what is a tar crème brûlée?” or “how does licorice sabayone go with strawberries?”. Give it a try and you will be surprised!
My absolute favourite is the Bouillabaisse – it’s divine!
