Musiikkitalo (or the Music Center) is a must for any culture traveller. It’s one of the latest additions in the Helsinki cultural scene and provides the perfect setting for classical concerts especially. There are a lot more contemporary performers there too, so no need to worry.
Places like the Musiikkitalo are great for a couple of reasons. It’s an impressive building and serves as a good place to visit just by itself. There are a lot of people who just pass through it on their way to work because they can. They probably shouldn’t, but I don’t blame them. I love the inside of the building quite a bit too. It’s vast and spacey, but still somehow feels comfortable. No wonder a couple of my friends are happy working there.
The other reason is that they really do have great concerts there. As it’s a new place, the acoustics have been thought through, so you really feel the music. I don’t really consider myself to be THAT patriotic or anything, but when you do witness a lovely Sibelius concert in surroundings like this… Well, you’re bound to feel moved. And it’s not really something you’d do on a weekly or even monthly basis, but it does work as a nice treat.
So let the music speak for itself.
