Whenever I’m hungry in the city center, New Bamboo Center is my go-to restaurant. Serving hungry locals since 1997, it has gained a good number of loyal followers and a bit of a legendary reputation.
New bamboo center offers a wide selection of Chinese and Malaysian dishes and especially the menu sets give great value for your money: my choice is usually the vegetarian dinner with soup, kung po tofu and fried banana with ice cream for only 12.50 euros.
But even if the food is very tasty, what makes the place really special is the staff and the atmosphere. Already when you enter the restaurant, it feels like you’re somewhere else. New Bamboo Center is always completely full of customers and the staff quickly organizes a place for you, somehow, somewhere. New Bamboo Center is always filled with customers chatting and busy staff running around in between the crowded tables. So this is definitely not a place to have a relaxed dinner but to enjoy the busy, slightly crazy atmosphere! Many customers are so loyal that the staff knows immediately what they are ordering and greet them with the name of their favorite dish the second they enter.
A funny detail is that the restaurant can’t sell any alcohol because the restaurant is situated in a house owned by a temperance society!
