Poompui B’staurant in Kallio serves Thai food, which so many Finns love. Because Thailand happens to be one of the most popular destinations for us abroad, you find several dozens of them only in Helsinki, and most of them are good. But if we’re talking about the very best, Poompui is the place for me!
After shutting down their original tiny Pinto B’staurant in Sörnäinen, they have now focused on the more spacious new place and they serve alcohol as well to wash down the spicy delicacies.
Frankly speaking, I haven’t tasted as authentic and delicious Thai food anywhere else outside Thailand! At the same time, the chefs are professional enough to bravely come up with creativity, even when preparing classic dishes like Pad Thai. It is actually one of my personal bravuras in kitchen, so I’m really critical about it, but Poompui’s version is just all that and then some!
Traditionally, Poompui also serves dishes from Laos and other dishes that are rare to find in most Thai restaurants. You can order at least the majority of the dishes as you wish — either with tofu, chicken, pork, beef, duck, king prawns, salmon or seafood mix, which gives a lovely amount of options for everyone. All the portions I have tried have been prepared in an elaborated way familiar to fine dining restaurants like Farang in the center.
Poompui’s interior is not your classic traditional Thai restaurant but more plain and modern, which makes a nice difference as well.
