On Fleminginkatu, between a couple of Thai massage parlours and shabby bars typical for the Kallio district, you can find Pulmu Baari.
You might guess the theme of the bar already when approaching it from up or down hill, because the logo of the bar looks unmistakingly like the one of the iconic airline Pan Am. And when you get closer, through the wide windows you can see a whirling turbine and an airplane up in the ceiling. The retro airport look is done with skill and you can notice small fun details, like the window counter masquerading as baggage carousel.
Pulmu is one of those livingroom kind of places where the bar is always inhabited by regulars chatting with the bartender. The atmosphere is relaxed and quite intimate because of the small size of the bar. On weekends this little place fills up to the last spot. If you’re lucky enough to arrive at the time when the second “floor” is still empty, mind your head and climb up to sit at the small balcony that used to be the dj-booth.
