Sävy was the first modern coffee shop in Kallio that actually had some variety and dedication to the art of coffee making. It was established by a couple, Kaisa and Mikko, next to Sörnäinen metro station in 2010, but has since moved to its current location just a few of blocks away. Sävy is now run by a new couple, Sanni and Aleksi, who have a background in the small but vibrant coffee scene of Turku city.
Sävy is still very nice. They have a small selection of pastries, juice and sodas, ice cream in the summer, and very nice estate coffees mainly from small roasteries. And two breakfast menus, with some muesli and yogurt as well.
I tend to pick up a coffee and something tasty on my way to work quite often. The relaxed atmosphere, nice little terrace and friendly service make it worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood.
In the first summer I was really late for a date, and since they had already charged us, we took a gift voucher to cover my part of the treats. The voucher was a filter bag with a handwritten text improvised on the spot. I still have it. Now they have upgraded to a 10pcs gift card that works on an old ticket vending machine that used to serve in a tram. Delightful.
