One of the most historic parts of Istanbul, outside the historical peninsula, is definitely Taksim district or Beyoglu, its old name.
İnci Pastanesi is one of the oldest residents of Beyoglu. They are known by the best profiterole in town. Since 1944 their tiny and modest pastry shop had been standing on the main İstiklal street. However, in 2012, the construction of a mall forced them to leave their 68-year-old-spot. Of course, this moving strengthened them and made people support them even more than before. Now, this patisserie can be found in number 18 of Mis sokak. Their new shop is still as modest as the prior one.
They serve portions of 3 to 5 pastry balls filled with sourish cream and bitter chocolate sauce. It’s so delicious that every single time I can’t stop myself from getting a second portion!
This is a taste that you should not skip even if you aren’t that much into dessert! Just give them a chance if you are passing by Taksim, you will not regret it…
