This park, formally named ‘Maçka Democracy Park’ is one of Istanbul’s few city parks, along with the pretty Emirgan, the regal Yıldız or the glorious Gezi. Lying between Dolmabahçe and Nisantasi, this green space provides locals with a place to take their kids, jog, walk dogs, or just sit and relax.
The park is crowded on sunny weekends, but you can still find a place to sit. There are playgrounds for kids (and dogs!), a couple of cafes, decorative pools and outdoor sports equipment if you’re in the mood for some exercise.
You can take the Maçka Gondola Lift from Taskisla, close to Gezi Park, and walk down the Macka Park. My suggestion is to grab snacks and drinks to enjoy at the park – keep in mind that alcohol might not be allowed, enjoy responsibly and discreetly.
I would not recommend taking a stroll after dark, as the park can become quite deserted.
