This shop combines a very down-to-earth business and attitude with one of the most colorful window designs.
Pickled vegetables are classic complementary dishes with their strong acidic taste. While a home made pickle is always the best, Soydan pickles are the closest ones to what my mother makes at home.
And on the plus side, they are very creative on which food to pickle. Cucumber, green peppers, cabbage, jalapeño and carrots are quite common. While these are top quality, their creative pickles include onion, garlic, tomato and plum, which is my new favorite.
Of course it is not easy to take some and bring it back home for visitors to Istanbul, you can always drop by to taste a portion with some pickle juice, take a look around and take a photo. You can be sure the owner, who is a great guy to chat with, will welcome you.
