Honestly, I’m a huge fan of small cozy bars and ruin pubs (like in Budapest, you know). Luckily, in Kiev such places are opening more and more. I want to highlight AM Bar separately.
A hidden spot with a cozy atmosphere in the heart of the city. What could be better?
So, dive into one of the arches amidst this noisy and crowded area of Kiev. Inside the typical central courtyard you’ll see some ordinary garages. But inside one of them there’s a very small bar and a cozy atmosphere unlike anything I’ve experienced before.
You can meet a noisy crowd of crazy IT-geeks or a couple of serious businessmen and even Red Cross workers who come for a drink here. The small space is inspiring for socializing and having some small talk. But if you want to relax alone you can climb the stairs and sit on the roof.
The most popular drinks there are the local liqueurs: Vishnevka, Grushevka. Delicious, but quite strong. So the only risk you run is losing count of the amount of shots you’ve had while diving into the pleasant conversation with the very friendly staff there. The drink selection is always handcrafted: Belgian beers, Italian wines, whiskey, etc. You’ll never know. Usually, I’m there for a glass of Westmalle beer.
Secret tip: if the bartender’s in the mood, ask him for a ride on an old elevator in the basement. It could be funny after some drinks. But I never said this ☺
