One of the reasons I love Kiev so much is that there are so many options for leisure within the city limits. My personal choice is biking, but a bunch of friends are big fans of wake boarding/surfing, and Kiev offers several spots where you can practice it.
Located on Trukhanov island on the Dnipro river, Breakwater Café is a pier with two boats and gear rental, a bar and a restaurant. It’s a nice place to chill by the river, even if you’re not surfing (that’s what I do). Spacious terrace with cushions, simple tasty food, variety of drinks and even hookah – what else would I need on a hot summer day? I would also recommend this place for a picnic-style birthday party.
I was mistaken before, thinking that it’s only good at summer. It turned out that they also have an amazing sauna where you can jump into the river right from the steam room (Finnish people, you would like this!)
Useful tip – there are guards collecting an entrance fee when you turn off the main road, but if you tell them you’re going to Breakwater, they’ll let you in for free.
