There is a trend in Kyiv these days that I really like – small bars with reasonably priced wines and snacks. While some other of my favorite ones serve only Ukrainian wines, Champagnela has good a selection of Italian, French, and even Portuguese Vinho Verde.
Located in a lively neighborhood 5 min walk from Peremohy square, Champagnela is a tiny bar with four tables inside and three more outside (of course, only in summer). For the last year or so, this is a place where I regularly start my weekend with a glass or two.
There is no kitchen present, but it’s still a good place for foodies. Probably the cheapest oysters in town, delicious snails with garlic, a range of Dutch cheeses and Italian meats, accompanied with sun-dried tomatoes and olives – basically, everything one needs with a glass of wine. Top that with the perfect service and you’ll never want to leave. I wish the venue would grow into a chain so that we have a Champagnela in every district of the city. I would just walk from one to another all day on Saturdays.
