Of course there are lots of restaurants in Kiev where you can have fish and all kinds of seafood. Seafood here is usually thought of as something quite expensive, something that you would have on a special occasion. Not anymore! Now we have the chance to enjoy oysters and mussels every day. Chernomorka is great for two reasons – they’ve made seafood affordable plus everything they serve is local which is quite cool.
Chernomorka may be not as popular as it deserves to be yet, as they are located quite far from the centre. Transport links are not the best so it is better to get a taxi. Like I said everything here is from local lakes, rivers and factories. It is possible to get an oyster for as low as $ 1.50. My favourites are rapa whelk in garlic sauce. These shellfish were very popular in the Soviet Union and if you’ve ever been to the Black Sea, you must have seen boys selling them at the beach :).
There are two rooms – one with the bar and another with stalls where you can choose what you’re going to eat yourself. The interior is a little chaotic but I like it much better than all the lofty bars we now have in the city centre. They also have boat-shaped tables outside!
