Meet the new star in the constellation of Kiev’s speakeasy bars – De Bosch!
Created by the owners of my favorite Pink Freud, this bar inherited all the best from his older brother – a famous freak’s name, a creative menu and exceptional cocktails. As a true speakeasy bar, De Bosch hides its entrance from the spontaneous visitors, letting in only the ones who know the secret of the curtain. To find the way in, go to Khnkalnya (a Georgean eatery) on 12, Rustaveli. Once you’re inside, turn to your right and go behind the black curtain. You will see the stairs and probably hear some funky music – that’s De Bosch.
The walls of the bar room are decorated with paintings of – guess who? – Hieronimus Bosch, which make me feel a little crazy and want to drink more.
The list of mixed drinks is arranged in seven columns, each presenting one of the deadly sins. My way is to try something new every time and then go back to usual Whisky Sour. Another good tradition of Kiev’s top bars – having a separate smoking room, which is very comfortable with our severe winters.
